NOLA Wedding Photography Experience

It was a chilly, rain-soaked day filled with fog, but I was thrilled to be in New Orleans. I kiss my hubby, kids, and fur babies goodbye to trek from the Rocky Mountains to the infamous French Quarter for a photography workshop with Twig & Olive Photography — and it was everything I dreamed it would be!

Weeks before the hubbub of Mardi Gras, the French Quarter was quiet and romantic, with classic facades and intricate details everywhere I looked, conjuring inspiration for so many new projects!

I was thrilled to capture the ambiance of the city, but more so, to photograph a pair of gorgeous newlyweds who perfectly emanate the enchantment of this historic neighborhood.

They were a delight to work with! Their excitement and love for each other was palpable, so capturing their natural movements — a look at him, wrapping his arm around her, dancing together — was so much fun!

The location we shot their images was perfect for the couple portraits as well as product photography styled shots.

In between photos of the two of them dancing in the foggy streets lit by twinkle lights and searchlight lamp posts, I styled images of the accessories that will forever remind them of their special day.

The gorgeous flower arrangement made up of deep reds, bright whites, and lush greens. The vow cards wrapped in red velvet on a bed of lace. The luscious cake with chocolate ganache dripping exquisitely down the sides against a backdrop of brick.

I love taking these kinds of photos because on the day of the wedding, they’re the minutiae we think of least often. Yet, years into married life, they’re the details that recall the most powerful memories.

Looking at the flower arrangement you dried will remind you of how he smiled every time you made eye contact across the dance floor.

Seeing red velvet on a pair of cute shoes will make you think of how it felt to hold hands as you walked back down the aisle together.

The unexpected juxtaposition of chocolate and brick will forever have you thinking of how quickly your heart was beating when you said “I do”.

I know they still do for me!

I love love stories, but more than that, one of the reasons I absolutely adore capturing weddings is because I’m bringing more memories to the table.

Just like the French Quarter, your special day is filled with classic, timeless experiences that you see on the surface. I provide the lens for you to see the intricate details, forever capsuled, so you can enjoy them forever and share them with those you love.
